What You Need to Know
Couples who are willing to approach their wedding with the understanding that marriage is an act of Christian discipleship and to undergo a discernment process with the pastor or other counselor may apply for marriage at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. Both members and non-members of SJPC are welcome.
Together is a beautiful place to be
Located in the heart of historic San Marco, our traditionally styled sanctuary seats 275-300 and provides a picturesque setting for both daytime and evening weddings.
Once your wedding date has been set, our Wedding Coordinator, Greg McMillan, will meet with you to go over details such as decorating and photography guidelines, and the rehearsal. We can provide a kneeling bench and candelabra if you choose to use them and can suggest additional rental resources.
Michael Dell, our Director of Music, can assist you in choosing musical accompaniment for your service as well as recommend soloists or additional instrumentalists.
What We Believe
Marriage is a Holy union symbolizing God’s committed love for us. While it is not a sacrament in the Presbyterian Church, it is a sacred and holy occasion of worship requiring reverence and order. Weddings are occasions of both joy and reverence—because of the gifts of love and happiness that two people have found in each other, and the deep commitment they have made to live out their vows under the grace of God.
Christian marriage should be celebrated in the place where the community gathers for worship. As a service of Christian worship, the marriage service is under the direction of the pastor and the supervision of the session. The service begins with scriptural sentences and a brief statement of purpose, includes appropriate passages of Scripture and prayers for the couple, communities which support them and for all who seek to live in faithfulness. In the name of the triune God, the minister shall declare publicly that the couple is now joined in marriage and a charge may be given.
As an open and affirming PCUSA church that is both a More Light Church and a member of the Covenant Network of Presbyterians, we do not consider sexual orientation as a determining factor in whether two people may be married at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church.
