Senior Pastor
Adam grew up the grandson of a preacher in a rural town just south of Youngstown, Ohio. While he always felt drawn to ministry, at his mother’s urging, he tried at first to find ways to follow this calling without being in the pulpit.
After high school, Adam attended Grove City College in Pennsylvania earning a degree in Marketing. From there he spent 5 years in Campus Ministry. Adam eventually felt the desire not to just help lead mission work through this ministry, but to understand and make changes systemically.
He attended The Ohio State University and received a Masters degree in City & Regional Planning and Public Administration. During his time working in the field of public policy, Adam specialized in affordable housing, helping those with Medicaid and with mental health issues live sustainably as a part of the community. However, he still felt the call.
Adam ultimately discovered that his call was to take his public policy background into the church setting and use ministry as the tool to engage the broader community. Adam attended Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas and served as the Head Pastor for Old Stone Presbyterian Church in Delaware, Ohio before accepting the call at SJPC.
In his leisure time, Adam enjoys spending time with his family, cycling, exploring the community, and learning new technology. He is equally happy to read a good book or spend time with friends watching a football game or sitting outside with a BBQ smoker. Per the instruction of one church member, he is still working on his southern drawl, but has incorporated “y’all” into his common vernacular.
Parish Associate
Jessica first came to SJPC as a pastoral intern in the winter of 2024 and joined the church as its parish associate for the neighborhood of San Marco as we continue to live into God’s calling.
Living in Jacksonville with her husband Tripp and her daughter, Emmaline, Jessica is a graduate of University of Dubuque Theological Seminary.
Her ministry passions include connecting congregations with their neighborhood and helping people find themselves in the stories of Scripture. When she is not working or chasing a toddler, she loves hiking a beautiful trail, watching the birds and butterflies in her backyard, and curling up with a cup of tea and a good book.
Director of Music
Michael serves as Director of Music/Organist at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. A native of Jacksonville, he is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High School and holds a Bachelor of Church Music degree from Stetson University in DeLand, Fla. and a Master of Church Music degree from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
He also enjoys his role as principal keyboardist for Jim Goodell’s Bella Voce, as well as collaborating with Jim for a number of musical projects both at his church and around town. He is the conductor of the community choral group, The Heritage Singers of Jacksonville, which he co-founded with his wife, Debbie, in January 2010. They are proud to claim SJPC as their rehearsal home!
Michael maintains his own piano/organ studio and has frequently joined with the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra when their repertoire has called for an organist. He also has played at California’s Crystal Cathedral, as well as at The International Church Music Festival in Bern, Switzerland. He enjoys offering musical support for the High Holy Days and other special services at Congregation Ahavath Chesed (“The Temple”). Well-versed in many liturgies, he is frequently called upon to play Catholic Masses and other liturgical events.
He also enjoys playing for Oktoberfest, in his role as keyboardist with the Newtons’ Wunderbar Band, as well as other musical enterprises with Glynda and Cliff Newton. Michael is a published composer, commissioned hymn writer, and frequent performer in both classical and jazz styles — often involving improvisation. He very much looks forward to the expansion and flourishing of the arts in the years ahead at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church!
director of Children’s ministry
Originally a teacher at SJPC’s former pre-school, Tabitha accepted the challenge to expand her role and work with the church’s children and youth. Whether spending time teaching Bible lessons on Sunday mornings or leading fun fellowship activities on Wednesday evenings, she feels privileged to nurture future generations and share Jesus’ love with them. Her hope is that SJPC’s young people can all grow and have an inspiring, meaningful, learning time together —and perhaps even a lot of fun —during their time with her.
Tabitha looks forward to serving with you and growing Our Children’s Ministry. She would love your input, ideas, and help. Please feel free to connect with her!
Office Manager
Alice Mickles joined our staff in August of 2003 and is a certified church administrator and so much more! Her experience in ministry includes serving as an elder, worship leader, actor, script writer, Christian education director, and youth director. Alice also has a background in discipleship training, special events coordination, counseling, and team-building.
As office manager she is responsible for general business and administration in this very busy church, but joining the ministry of SJPC provided another opportunity for Alice to follow a passion of her heart. She has a passion for prayer and looks for daily opportunities to intercede on behalf of others.
Alice enjoys spending quality time with family, scenic riding down less traveled backroads, reading and interceding for others in prayer. Her philosophy of worship is that “Worship is not something we do just on Sundays, it’s a lifestyle.”
